BEYOND TOUCH TRAINING SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS
I strive to teach people not ‘what to do’ but more ’how to be’ so that whatever they do lands differently. Most modality training is about adding tools (and possibly excellent ones, possibly very important). I work on the one holding those tools. Change emerges from within.
I invite people to come from any teaching tradition, with any style or practice - as well as non-professionals! - and I wish to repave their foundations, and overlay their genius with added layers of insight and observational powers.
There are some unusual approaches to the body that I teach, but generally I don’t teach touch techniques.
I nudge the creation of internal and relational conditions in which touch naturally becomes regulatory, organizing, and transformative.
Before technique, there is presence. Before presence, there is safety and regulation. This training builds that foundation.
My North Star (guiding philosophy) is:
To nudge a change in how a person inhabits themselves and steps into an expanded sense of self. To be a companion in a process of ‘coming home’.
This system:
1. Establishes baseline nervous system safety
2. Trains subtle perceptual acuity
3. Cultivates appropriate response instead of technique imposition
4. Shifts focus from intervention-based touch to perception-led touch (shift from doing to responding)
My system/approach focuses on establishing conditions like a stage director which makes positive change more likely. I assume that you have your own style/knowledge/interests and celebrate those. I highlight relational conditions in which a nervous system begins to reorganise itself.
I offer different modalities of teaching, from 2 - 5 hour workshops on conscious touch and massage, to a 3-day bodywork training I call Beyond Touch: Deep Listening & Appropriate Responding.
BEYOND TOUCH
Cultivating Insight and Authentic Presence in Bodywork
This is a training in grounded attunement to the human body, offering tools that foster intuitive flow and authentic expression in touch.
Beyond Touch can be summarized as an approach of:
Deep listening and appropriate response
There are four main pillars to this approach (which are looped and connected and overlapped, not sequential and linear).
The first, self-regulation/self understanding , is the most inward and the most foundational - it’s who you are before you arrive.
The second, safety creation/readying the field, faces outward toward the receiver but is still pre-contact, it’s more about setting conditions for what wants to happen to happen.
The third, deep observation, is the live receptive faculty during contact (where we learn skills of ‘reading’ subtle bodily clues).
The fourth, appropriate conscious response, is the live active expression during contact (here is your toolbox of ‘technique’ in action).
In short: prepare yourself, prepare the field, listen, respond.
(Notice: 50% of that has the word preparation in it - not technique!)
As the classic Zen adage goes: How you do anything is how you do everything.
In Beyond Touch, we’ll explore some new methods of approaching the human body, but the emphasis is not on accumulating technique. Instead, by fine-tuning sensitivity to subtle body cues and working from a place of peace and curiosity, you’ll amplify the power of tools you already carry.
This is a 3-day training for professionals who use touch in their work, and also for anyone for whom touch is a vital language of connection (ie: you do not need to be a professional in the field of massage for this course!).
The atmosphere of the training is both practical and playful, structured yet spacious, focused on learning but also playful and humorous.
Each day will include paired massage and touch exercises to help you refine your unique frequency of touch. You’ll also step into quieter solo practices that expand your capacity for observation and noticing. We’ll balance action with reflection through a blend of instruction, hands-on practice, group explorations, demonstrations, touch-based games, and movement sessions that keep us loose, energized, and engaged.
The body holds not only endless trauma, but mainly hidden wisdom waiting to ripen. By orienting toward this wisdom in others, we invite our own to come forward too.
Through this course, you can expect to:
Add tools to your practice that balance technical clarity with energetic sensitivity, including methods to slip beneath the vigilant mind’s radar
Sharpen your ability to offer touch that feels intimate, attuned, safe, and non-invasive
Discover the axes of conscious touch - it can seem impossible to define what exactly an attuned, conscious touch is, but here we uncover its different dimensions and learn how to transmit presence
Sustain a state of flow that connects from one’s own embodied wisdom and allows the other’s wisdom to emerge
Grow confidence in reading subtle signals — finger twitches, micro-expressions, breath rhythms, bracing and release
Explore your own needs and attitudes around touch, and how they shape the quality of what you offer
Bring individual challenges from your practice into a supportive circle, where collective insight can lead to clarity and fresh approaches
Beyond Touch is not about following a method, but about widening perception, refining sensitivity, and discovering how deep listening can blossom into authentic response.
